ICG 1101 |
Description: |
I found this C636 at Freeport, Ill in 1978. It was possibly the only time a C636 operated on the Iowa Division. It had died on the road just out of Rockford and was sent back to Chicago. This may have been the only C636 to get ICG lettering.....all the C636s were retired in 1979. These units were plagued by mechanical problems from the beginning. They were assigned to the Kentucky Division and kept close to the Paducah shops. They were on a short-term lease to the CP in 1970 & 1971. |

IC 1102 |
Description: |
George Horna slide. Perhaps the most unusual and unexpected locomotive purchase were the six Alco C636s in 1968. The big Century's suffered mechanical problems soon after delivery. They were assigned to the Kentucky Division and stayed close to the Paducah shops. Most of the units were stored by 1977 and finally retired in 1979. |
